so it's spring time again...
not a big fan of spring fashions... not a very pastel-y person, although I am feeling the linens...
problem with linen is that it's a bitch to maintain... not something you can keep unwrinkled... but that's how it rolls. it's got to keep it real.
aaand, whatever.
so my allergies are kicking up with a vengence this year... tried to go with these herbal pillules... worked a bit, but not enough... went with nasonex, but that didn't help my itchy eyes... took out the contacts and went back to zyrtec.
allergies suck.
so, since I'm not wearing contacts, I've noticed that it is imperative to keep my hair cut, because the sideburns look STUPID when they get too long.
also, I don't like not being able to see when I wake up in the morning... and since I don't like to sleep with my glasses on my face...
well, you get the idea.
... ... ...
played poker last night... as I do every tuesday with my co-workers... why do I play? because there is really nothing else that would take precedence over it...
I'd much rather be having dinner with my family, but since flying home wouldn't be conducive to my project's budget, that's out.
... ... ...
I've rediscovered text based games. have I mentioned that before? no? if I did, so what... I'm talking about it now.
hitchhiker's guide to the galazy, adventure, zork I, II, III...
crazy. I found an apple IIe emulator, and I can play that, oregon trail, castle wolfenstein, and some other's I can't think of...
it's very nice, because I can play them while I'm at work, and it actually looks like I'm doing work...
that is until someone actually reads what is on my screen...
open door
get all
drop lantern
kill troll
kill troll
diagnose
get egg
up
west
east
not to mentione all of the text that pops up describing the rooms and whatever.
... ... ...
I would totally get fired but for the simple fact that I get it done. "it" being whatever work it is that I need to look like I'm doing.
it also helps that, for some reason, I work best after 6pm... it could be because no one is here and the place is quiet and I've exhausted all possible scenarios to not doing real work... by 6pm, I've checked all 12 e-mail accounts three to five times, I've checked all of the link blogs and the sub-link blogs three to five times, I've read all of the news for the day, I've read about random things in wikipedia (those links within articles just keep me going and going and going...), I've looked up a handful of tidbits at imdb.com, I've read through a number of movie transcripts, and I've played a few text games or sudoku games...
frankly, I'm surprised I get anything done.
you know that feeling you get when you don't want to do work?
yeah.
... ... ...
it's 11:30am.
typically, I would im my roommate and we would go to lunch because we just need to be out of the office.
he's on vacation.
so I'm going to leave and sleep at my apartment.
and eat caffeine, because that should suffciently kill my appetite for a few hours.
... ... ...
by the time I get back, I should be in the mood to start doing something productive.
... ... ...
have a nice day! hope you were as productive as me! :-P

return to sender...
posted @ 15:28 by ryan in [ To-do list... ]
good people of earth,
I know that all of you have mail of some sort, of the snail variety - and therefore receive junk mail...
Please note - the envelopes in which the snail mail arrives contain other envelopes which are postage-paid business class envelopes which is paid by the companies who send you your credit card, home loan, sweepstakes, etc. application forms through their tree-killing correspondence.
when you receive this junk - please take a few moments to stuff the contents of that mail (including the outer envelope) and send that junk mail right back to the sender (on their dime)
this alleviates two things - the amount of recycling you personally have to do that week, and a little bit of stress due to the satisfaction of sticking it to the man.
this is not my idea, but tony s. I just wanted to share it with the world.
have fun!

to-do lists...
posted @ 13:03 by ryan in [ To-do list... ]
not that they so much direct my life, but they sure do keep me busy...
not to mention taking up most of my time.
this entire weekend I felt very lazy.
very unmotivated.
I think it was probably the result of several weeks of flurried activity, although one would not come to that conclusion by reading this blog...
whatever the case, I barely made time to mow the lawn this weekend - what, with all the vegging-out I did, it was amazing that task was even on the radar.
I think vacations are, really, the time-that-you-didn't-have-during-the-time-you-were-working-to-do-the-things-that-needed-to-be-done-at-the-time-you-were-working-but-since-you-were-working-you-couldn't-do-it-then-so-you-must-do-it-during-you-vacation-which-means-that-you-will-need-a-vacation-from-your-vacation-to-do-absolutly-nothing-to-recover-from-the-vacation-that-wasn't-truly-a-vacation-so-much-as-it-was-time-that-you-didn't-have-to-work.
I have several to do lists, in the form of text files - probably scattered over three different computers and a pda.
I must find time to consolidate these lists so that there is a single master to-do list which will be managed at one point - probably my pda - so that it will always be available.
here's the problem.
out of site out of mind...
I do much better when I have a huge dry erase board in front of me... staring me in the face...
when it is on my pda, it is usually in my pocket...
and I forget about it.
that's what happens...
I should make that my next to-do...
to look at my to-do list on my pda...
to do what I am supposed to do when I am supposed to do it....

tuesday's gray...
posted @ 17:07 by ryan in [ To-do list... ]
the washer and dryer has come... and I connected the dryer, with no gas leaks I might add, and in the process I saved myself $85...
now I have to go get a wireless router and some wireless cards...
why?
BECAUSE WE ARE ONLINE!
WHOOO HOOOO!
... ... ...
when I was living at my mom's, I took for granted broadband internet.
once I moved into the new house, it was like being cast back into the stone ages... it is different if you never had cable or broadband...
but once you've been to paradise, you never want to leave...
... ... ...
but that's just me.
... ... ...
so I have to scour to find a good deal...
... ... ...
leave me.
I am scouring...

today is monday...
posted @ 17:22 by ryan in [ To-do list... ]
it is like every other monday, except for it is today.
this is the first monday that has been what would considered be a normal monday.
although, monday's on the average are abnormal. so if the average is abnormal then it must be abnormal to be normal.
therefore, a normal monday is abnormal (which would be normal)
... ... ...
in any case, tomorrow is tuesday. which is exciting for me (and I would say for my wife also) because we are not only getting internet access, premium cable, but we are getting a new fridge, washer, and dryer (although not in one big combination machine - could you imagine trying to get a bottle of water during spin cycle? you'd get all wet!)
so tonight, after mowing the lawn, I will need to go and get wireless routers and cards for the computers in the house.
... ... ...
and then I will have to get the tivo configured somehow...
... ... ...
I'm thirsty.

the calm before the storm...
posted @ 07:12 by ryan in [ To-do list... ]
when I get to the office early, there is a lull...
the white noise generators are not on just yet and the air is stagnant because they have turned off the air conditioner.
it is quiet.
and I can focus and unfocus at the same time... of course, I have to attend the meeting that has pulled me into the office as early as this...
... ... ...
it is a lot like our wedding...
I actually was fine... not nervous about anything, really...
until last night.
when everyone was like "We have to do this.", "Did you do this?", "When are we going to do this."...
and I am freaking out on the inside, because once I start multitasking, I tend to spread myself so thin that I cannot possibly be doing anything useful.
my bridal party is spread through the reaches of the earth... or, rather, the midwest...
my bride is out of state.
our guestlist needs to be compiled.
and I still need to make lists to send out...
... ... ...
why the hell am I still here typing?

engulfed...
posted @ 09:30 by ryan in [ To-do list... ]
there are times when life is like a cool, spring day. Sunny with a dash of clouds and everything in bloom.
Everything is young, fresh, and new.
then...
the next minute, it is a friggin' hurricane...
so much stuff just going on...
... ... ...
there is exactly one month left until I am married.
... ... ...
my sister is so pregnant, my nephew is practically a newborn...
... ... ...
our wedding is one month away and there is so much to do...
... ... ...
my house is completely a mess because I have not put away all of the stuff from the wedding shower and I ransacked my files to find proof that I actually paid
... ... ...
I am out of bottled water.
... ... ...
I have been so busy with my new team that I barely have time to even get this down in a blog, let alone read everyone elses...
... ... ...
I do not have internet access at home, nor do I have cable.
... ... ...
I need to get the closets configured so Lorie will have a place to stick all of her stuff...
... ... ...
I have a headache.
... ... ...
and the weirdest thing is... I am so not in the mood to play poker right now... my mental capacity can only take so much, and I need more than what I have to play the way I need to...
... ... ...
I have to go... we are getting slammed with korgo, lovegate, and mydoom...
[they are] the disease... and I [have] the cure...

crunch...
posted @ 14:23 by ryan in [ To-do list... ]
we are coming in on the final two months... things are going to get tight...
and I do not think worrying is going to help so much, so we need to buckle down and get it done.
crunch time sucks.
