frightful...

with icy cold breath
she slaps me across the face.
now, where is my scarf?

when do you reach your peak physical condition? I would think for most people that it is end of high-school beginning of college... This could possibly stretch to mid-20's, but with the number of injuries I've seen from those in the mid-20's (at least in my circle of friends) I would think that early 20's is it...

how tragic is that? considering that average life expectancy in the US is almost 80 years... you will live 3/4 of your life in some kind of physical decline..

the winters seem much colder, much harder, now... I bundle up, I wear hats and scarves - not because it is "cool" but because I enjoy comfort much more than I enjoy discomfort. (in fact, the only discomfort I can tolerate is when it is the intentional discomfort I would cause others... assuming I would cause anyone discomfort for some reason or another)

what was I thinking as a child?

do children generate more body heat?
because I don't remember the cold being so cold when I was younger...

I would run around outside with my jacket wide open and with no hat upon my head... I do remember the really, really cold days where I would bundle up, but the purpose of that was to play around in the snow and build forts and snowmen and throw snowballs at siblings and friends.

yesterday, it was 8 degrees F

that is 24 degrees F below freezing.

and then throw in the wind chill... or maybe that was including the wind chill....

today, not so bad...

whatever...

I once heard that "cold" is a state of mind, and "freezing" is a condition.well, now I must start to employ the use of technology to help me.

technologically advanced attire and gear mixed with performance enhancing drinks will get me through this winter.

but dammit...

duofolds can be a little pricey and hot chocolate makes me sleepy...

but aren't they delightful?

please put a penny in the old man's hat...
posted @ 17:15 by ryan in [ Tidbits... ]

did you know that back in the day there was such a thing as a half-penny?

I would sing that "Christmas is coming and the goose is getting fat song" and I would always sing "hay-penny" because that's how I learned it...

revisiting the song, the correct lyric is ha' penny, which I assume is half-penny...

if you haven't got a penny, a ha' penny will do...
if you haven't got a ha' penny, then God bless you!

anyhow, I guess not that many people know the song... I thought it was like "row, row, row your boat"

although, now that I think about it, I think that "Row, row, row your boat" is about the Matrix, conceived hundreds of years before the faintest conception of the Matrix...

whatever... this site will be renovated and I am in the process right now - although all of the changes are currently offline...

I'll update everything, assuming all goes well, by the new year...

but that's a big assumption...

craps, anyone?

Christmas is coming and the goose is getting sat...

subcutaneous adipose tissue....

works just was well as "fat" although the moment of confusion and look of incredulity is well worth the letter substituion...

I am not playing soccer right now, and I am getting spoiled with the amount of driving I do not have to do. Also, with the coming and going of Thanksgiving and the glorious and plentiful feasts prepared by my lovely wife - not to mention all of the junk I consume - there are many contributing factors.

Yes, I am getting fat, or sat rather...

the human body requires a certain balance of fat, glucose, and protein (protein, by the way, is another word that can join the ranks of weird, either, and neither, all of which defy the mnemonic device "'i' before 'e', except after 'c', or when sounded like 'a' as in neighbor and weigh") along with vitamins and minerals... and to keep the pounds off you need to burn as many calories as you ingest, otherwise your body stores any unused calories as fat... anyhow, it takes less calories for your body to turn fat into fat, and since I have been consuming a lot more fat and doing far less exercise, my body has been taking the easier route.

So lorie and I have been looking, seriously but somewhat half-heartedly, for an elliptical for my sister to buy for us with our money... It is far too cold for me to run outside and it is too far a drive for me to play indoor soccer on the east side... at least for now.

I plan to stop eating.

I am no longer hungry.

of course, my lack of appetite is directly attributed to the fact that I just polished off two kit-kat bars...

in any case... no one likes a quitter and quitters never win... (with that philosophy, it's amazing I quit smoking)

... ... ...

I may very well run today...

to cold stone...

for a quart...

:-P
